Intensive Outpatient Program Serving Hartford, CT

If you or someone you care about in Hartford, Connecticut is navigating depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use, or another behavioral health challenge, Waterview Behavioral Health offers a structured path forward. Our Joint Commission-accredited Intensive Outpatient Program in Wallingford is just 35 minutes from Hartford via I-91 S, making consistent attendance manageable alongside your daily responsibilities.

As Connecticut’s capital city, Hartford is home to a broad network of healthcare providers and community organizations. Yet many individuals in the Greater Hartford area still struggle to find an Intensive Outpatient Program that combines clinical depth with scheduling flexibility. Waterview Behavioral Health fills that gap. Located just 35 minutes south on I-91 S in Wallingford, our program is designed for adults who need more than weekly therapy but want to remain connected to their work, families, and communities while receiving treatment.

A Flexible, Evidence-Based IOP

Our IOP runs three days per week, three hours per day — a structure designed to provide meaningful clinical support while allowing you to maintain work, school, and family commitments. Each week includes group therapy, individual therapy sessions, family therapy when appropriate, and medication management overseen by our Medical Director, Dr. Straun, who is board-certified in both General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry.

We use evidence-based therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) — a trauma-focused approach that remains uncommon in outpatient settings but has strong research support for PTSD and anxiety disorders.

Dedicated Treatment Tracks

Waterview offers four specialized IOP tracks to ensure your treatment matches your needs:

Mental Health Track — For individuals living with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, and other conditions that benefit from structured outpatient support.

Chemical Dependency Track — For those addressing substance use disorders with a focus on recovery skills, relapse prevention, and building a sustainable sober life.

Co-Occurring Track — For individuals managing both mental health and substance use challenges simultaneously, because treating one without the other rarely leads to lasting progress.

Mission Reset Program — A specialized track for first responders, veterans, and public safety professionals. This program understands the unique culture of service — hypervigilance, cumulative exposure, shift-work disruption — and creates a confidential peer environment where these experiences are understood, not explained.

Why Hartford Residents Choose Waterview

Waterview Behavioral Health stands apart in Connecticut’s behavioral health landscape for several reasons. Our Joint Commission accreditation reflects a commitment to the highest standards of care and safety. Our Medical Director holds dual board certification — a distinction that ensures psychiatric oversight is both thorough and specialized. And our clinical team brings diverse expertise across trauma, addiction, family systems, and neurodevelopmental conditions.

For Hartford residents, the 35-minute drive to our Wallingford location at 300 Church Street, Suite 302, is a small investment for access to a program built around clinical excellence and genuine responsiveness. We collaborate closely with referring providers throughout treatment and at discharge, ensuring continuity of care.
