Patient-Centered Care
Medication management in PHP begins with careful listening and a review of current medications, prior response, side effects, relevant history, and the concerns that led to this level of care. The prescribing provider and participant make individualized decisions together; entering PHP does not automatically mean that medication will be started or changed.
Clinical Monitoring During PHP
A structured PHP schedule gives the treatment team more frequent opportunities than routine outpatient visits to notice symptom changes, questions, or possible side effects. Prescribers can use that information to evaluate benefit and tolerability while giving participants clear instructions about safe medication use. Participants should not stop or adjust medication without guidance from a qualified prescriber.
Medication Decisions Connected to Therapy
Medication is considered within the same plan as group therapy, individual work, skills practice, and discharge preparation. This coordination helps the team understand whether a concern may require a medication review, a therapeutic intervention, additional assessment, or a combination of supports.

Participants are encouraged to ask what a medication is intended to address, how it should be taken, which effects should be reported, and what follow-up will be needed after PHP. Clear education supports informed consent and helps participants take an active role in treatment.
Planning for Medication Follow-Up After PHP
Medication planning continues beyond the PHP episode. With appropriate authorization, Waterview may coordinate with an outside prescriber or help identify follow-up resources so that monitoring does not stop at discharge. The aftercare plan can document current medications, recommended follow-up, and the next provider responsible for ongoing psychiatric care.
