Intensive Outpatient Program Serving New Haven, CT
If you or someone you care about in New Haven, Connecticut is navigating depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use, or another behavioral health challenge, Waterview Behavioral Health offers a structured path forward. Our Joint Commission-accredited Intensive Outpatient Program in Wallingford is just 15 minutes from New Haven via I-91 N, making consistent attendance manageable alongside your daily responsibilities.
As one of Connecticut’s largest cities and home to a major university community, New Haven has a significant need for accessible, high-quality behavioral health services. Whether you’re a working professional in the New Haven area, a graduate student managing the pressures of academic life, or a family member seeking support for a loved one, Waterview’s Intensive Outpatient Program offers a level of clinical rigor that is difficult to find in a flexible outpatient format. Our Wallingford facility is a quick 15 minutes north on I-91 N — close enough to make three-day-a-week attendance realistic without disrupting your routine.
A Flexible, Evidence-Based IOP
Our IOP runs three days per week, three hours per day — a structure designed to provide meaningful clinical support while allowing you to maintain work, school, and family commitments. Each week includes group therapy, individual therapy sessions, family therapy when appropriate, and medication management overseen by our Medical Director, Dr. Straun, who is board-certified in both General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry.
We use evidence-based therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) — a trauma-focused approach that remains uncommon in outpatient settings but has strong research support for PTSD and anxiety disorders.
Dedicated Treatment Tracks
Waterview offers four specialized IOP tracks to ensure your treatment matches your needs:
Mental Health Track — For individuals living with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD, OCD, and other conditions that benefit from structured outpatient support.
Chemical Dependency Track — For those addressing substance use disorders with a focus on recovery skills, relapse prevention, and building a sustainable sober life.
Co-Occurring Track — For individuals managing both mental health and substance use challenges simultaneously, because treating one without the other rarely leads to lasting progress.
Mission Reset Program — A specialized track for first responders, veterans, and public safety professionals. This program understands the unique culture of service — hypervigilance, cumulative exposure, shift-work disruption — and creates a confidential peer environment where these experiences are understood, not explained.
